“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring, will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time”

An excerpt from Four Quartets by T. S. Elliot, Little Gidding, Part V

It is my goal that the excerpt above sets the foundation for this website and the activities described within. The site is about mountain activities such as hill walking, trekking, outdoor skills and photography – and bringing these to you as a client. It is about discovery, expanding horizons, personal development and enjoyment – through bespoke courses and travel itineraries.

Latest News

Following a busy period, I finally made time during early 2024 to move my website to a new host and I have begun rebuilding the site. My original website was born more than 20 years ago. During the coming months, the pages will be added once more and they will be fitting of the quality of the courses and trips available. Please bear with me, while I add pages back to the Inspiration and Resources sections below. I have recently added back the Greenland and Iceland pages. New courses and trips will also become available. Otherwise you can find updates and see pictures from earlier adventures on my Facebook page, Instagram and Flickr accounts.

Qualified for Safety, Learning & Enjoyment

All the courses and trips you find here are planned and led my myself. I have 30 years of experience of venturing into the mountain regions of our planet – particularly throughout Scandinavia, Iceland and Greenland. My qualifications include the UIMLA International Mountain Leader (IML), British Winter Mountain Leader, Summer Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor, and Norwegian Glacier Guide & Instructor. I am also qualified in first aid and I carry a wealth of knowledge into the mountains regarding flora and fauna, the environment and local history. Sustainability and making good choices for our planet are also in focus. My company Mountain Environment is based in Denmark and it is a registered travel agent with the Danish Travel Guarantee Fund. Read more about my background in the Introduction section below.

Resources

The sections below are resources that I have developed over the years including putting Rjukan on the map as an ice climbing venue some 25 years ago. I have also been fascinated by William Cecil Slingsby’s adventures and first ascents in the Norwegian mountains, and collecting the Norwegian mountains over 2000m. Click on the pictures to find out more – the Winter Safety page has valuable resources for winter activities including guidance on how to perform transceiver checks with groups.
